Ward Eight
It’s fall here in the Carolinas and I was looking for a rye cocktail that works well with the cooler temps and the beautiful color of this cocktail fits right in with the festive holidays.
Cuban Basil Cordial
We were in our community garden watering our vegetables the other evening and a fellow gardener said that I had to try this Cuban Basil that she had growing in her bed. I was unfamiliar with the herb and gave it a taste. It was certainly not your average Basil.
Watermelon Linen
It’s summer time and the temperature is rising. This is a great cocktail to sit back and sip on your porch to cool down. It’s a riff on the White Linen cocktail which is a cucumber, elderflower, and gin based drink. Just add juice from a seasonal watermelon and you’ve got the perfect drink for a hot day.
Front Porch Martini
The key to a good Martini is to make it as cold as you can. I keep my gin in the freezer for just this purpose along side the coupe.
3 Essential Cocktail Syrups
Here are 3 essential syrups that I keep in my refrigerator. You can use these in tons of drinks and are easy to make.
The Last Flight
A Classic riff on The Last Word and The Paper Plane. A perfect 1:1:1:1 ratio drink. If you don’t have the Chartreuse, try Faccia Brutto Centerbe which is just as good.
Old Fashioned
The Classic Cocktail. Perfect for a cold winter night. You can use Rye or Bourbon and garnish with a traditional orange peel or a Luxardo cherry.
