Ward Eight

It’s fall here in the Carolinas and I was looking for a rye cocktail that works well with the cooler temps. The beautiful color of this cocktail fits right in with the festive holidays. There are many variations of the Ward Eight but I like this grenadine forward one the best. Pomegranates are in season so I made up a fresh batch of grenadine (see recipe here).The original recipe calls for orange juice but I substituted grapefruit for a nice zing.

Recipe:

1 3/4 oz rye whiskey

3/4 oz grenadine (recipe here)

½ oz lemon juice

¼ oz grapefruit juice

Shake on ice. Strain into a cold coupe. No garnish.
